Sunday 3 February 2013

1st - Declan Connelly - €48,389

Declan Connelly will be crowned our 2013 D4 Events European Deepstack Champion after defeating Jimmy De Barros in a short heads up battle up. Coming into todays play 2nd in chips he ended up managing to maintain a level head & after a few topsy turvy swings in fortunes he was on the good side of it when it mattered. Catching him on the stream yesterday we had Tom Kitt note that he wasn't really going to step out of line and would play a straight up solid game, in 2010 he final tabled the Irish Open and since then has a nice few entries on his Hendon Mob and this will certainly be a nice addition.

Ok folks that's it we are done & dusted here at the D4 Events European Deepstack Championship, we kicked off on Thursday by the time registration closed 9 levels later we had 454 entrants, starting off into Day 2 with 296 players and of those our 9th place finisher Marc MacDonnell would be our overnight tournament chipleader. Ten levels were scheduled for play towards the end of it we were rapidly approaching the money bubble but just missed out on bursting it so it would onto  Day 3 before we finally got to it, Noel O Brien would end up finishing Day 2 as chipleader after being one of the last people to register and not even turning up until the start of play, 45 players would make some return on their investment but we still had 48 players and 3 of those were just going to miss out, Florian Herve Bulliard was the player to bubble the money when he was eventually knocked out by final tabilist Matthieu Duran when his AJ couldn't get there against JJ with that all players were guaranteed a minimun of €950. Day 3 saw us play down to our final table of 9 players Bridget Chaney would just miss out on that most coveted spot on a final table. Onto the final days action Jimmy De Barros come in with nearly a 2/1 chip leader, Marc MacDonnell would get off to a great start when doubling through Jimmy De Barros bust a couple of hands where he had people dominated and a flip or two would see him exit off the final table after being one of 3 people (Dara O Kearney & Raf De Wever) to make two European Deepstack final tables quite the accomplishment.

The blog took a back seat one/two of the days as I made my live stream debut doing most of the commentary for the weekend, cheers to all the people who swung by for the weekend to give their input on the action. Cheers to everybody that tuned into the coverage and participated in the chat box.

We Have a Winner

Declan Connelly will be our 2013 D4 Events European Deepstack Champion after beating the final days chipleader Jimmy De Barros in a short heads up play.

De Barros from Luxembourg was the chipleader for a good portion of the day and absolutely bossed it at times only lost the lead a couple times throughout the day, as we got to heads up play he just held onto a slight lead by a couple of hundred thousands as the stacks were pretty much even at 11,000,000 a piece.

Couple of swings in heads up play with Connelly getting a double up with KK vs AQ & De Barros retaken the lead another crucial hand were De Barros could of ended it he held J9 on a Jack high board but the Irish man managed to get there on the turn when he paired his Queen onto our final hand De Barros found himself trailing while holding KsJs vs Connellys AhKd as the board ran out 7c2h6h7s8d one time chipleader would find himself finishing in 2nd place.

2nd - Jimmy De Barros - €33,000

3rd - David Jansen - €23,500

David Jansen was our 3rd place finisher, having nearly been knocked out a few minutes previous by Declan Connelly holding Ah10h vs Ad10s hearts were freerolling the board as it fell 9h8c3h but Jansen managed to fade the draw after it went brick brick!

Onto his exit hand it was he was up against Connelly once again this time on the bad side of it as he held 5c5d & was crushed by KhKd board running out 10d2h9d8hAd

The chat box on the live stream was blowing up as he had a big contingent on the virtual rail from back home in Belgium.

4th - Roland Gradert - €17,000

Roland Gradert will be our 4th place finisher, losing a big flip the hand previous his exit he called Declan Connellys all in with Ah10c vs Kd6h when his opponent flopped an 6 it left him very short on circa 700,000

David Jansen opens to 340,000 with Gradert moving all in behind but he gets a quick call by JsJd while holding Ad4s needing to hit an Ace it wasn't to be for the Swede as the board ran out QcKc6h2s6s

5th - Raf De Wever - €13,400

Raf De Wever who was one of the 3 people to have made two European Deepstack final table has busted in 5th position after moving all in for 1,700,000 with Ac7c got the call from Roland Gradert with As5s

Dealer spreading a JhKsJs flop he it Gradert pretty hard as he was drawing tot he nut flush as we went onto the turn it fell 8s and it locked up the hand and we were losing another player as an inconseuential 5c hit the river.

6th - Matthieu Duran - €10,475

Matthieu Duran finishes in 6th place after shoving the button with JcJh with Roland Gradert in the BB called with Ad9d

Gradert flopped pretty well as it the flop came 9s9h2s with Duran sitting in his seat shaking his head, turn Ac & river As

7th - Gaeten Lheureux - €7,600

Gaeten Lheureux will be our 7th place finished been very close in chips to David Jansen we had to have countdown of the stack Jansen had him covered.

Lheureux shoving from the CO with 6c7d he ran into Jansens AsKc in the button, 3h9h2h was spread he picked up a couple extra outs when 10d peeled off on the turn but a brick 5d and it was curtains.

8th - Pat Smyth - €5,725

Pat Smyth will be our 8th place finsiher, hadn't been involved in much of the action so far but all in pre flop with AsKh vs JdJc of Jimmy De Barros for 2,200,000

Board running out 7d4h2s8sQs with that win now he will be just shy of 10,000,000 and a commanding chipleader.

9th - Marc MacDonnell - €4,300

Marc MacDonnell will be the first player eliminated from our feature table, after an early double up things just turned bad for him. Instead of having 4-5,000,000 chipstack he was left with a little over 600,000

First hand that took the chunk of his stack Jimmy De Barros opens the action with MacDonnell repoping it when Raf De Wever moving all in for 1,625,000 quick call as he held KK vs AQ flopping top set things were looking good as but there was a 10 on the board blank on the turn so the only card left in the deck was any of the remaining Jacks and that's what binked on the river, hand to knock him down open with 66 got shoved on from David Jasen for just shy of 1,000,000 chips 66 vs AdKd as the dealer spread the flop of diamond/diamond it was another sweat and when we go to the river he once again had to sit there in dismay as he got rivered again.

Onto his exit hand it was a blind on blind battle between himself & Jimmy De Barros who set him all in, MacDonnell sat back in his seat milling the hand through his head and probably knew that De Barros was going to be putting the pressure on with a wide range of hands.

De Barros - Ks4d

MacDonnell - Kh8h

He was out in front as the cards went on their back but this time it was De Barros who was going to flop a 4 just as he had done so himself earlier as the flop fell As4h8h bottom pair vs flush draw but it was brick brick turn/river as the board ran out 9cQc to send him to the rails, really would of made for an exciting table if he had a bunch of chips to play with.

Early Double Up

Just like his start to yesterday's play Marc MacDonnell has managed an early double up after coming from behind, tournament chipleader Jimmy De Barros opens to the button for 105,000 & MacDonnell out of the SB moved all in for 1,440,000 quick think about the action and it's called.

De Barros - Ah9d

MacDonnell - As4s

As the dealer spread the flop 5d8s4c it was bottom pair and snatching the lead in the process, when the turn fell 3s it was one of De Barros outs taken away as he could no longer hit the 9s he had two outs in the deck to hit but as the rivered peeled Jh it was the first major hit De Barros had taken to his stack that we have observed.

Shuffle Up & Deal

Blinds restart at 30,000/60,000/8,000 with 34 minutes left in the level our final nine players line up.

Final Day

Good afternoon folks and welcome to Day 4 of the D4 Event European Deepstack 2013 9 players remain and today we will crown a new champion.

Play will be underway in about 15 minutes time.

Day 3 Wrap Up

After 9 hours play here on Day 3 of the D4 Events European Deepstack Dublin 2013 we have our final table set. Just missing out on making it into the money yesterday 48 players returned for a 1pm start with 45 lucky players making some return on their investment while 3 unlucky people were going to miss out, Florian Herve Bulliard was the player to bubble the money when he was eventually knocked out by final tabilist Matthieu Duran when his AJ couldn't get there against JJ.

There was rush of quick exits once the money bubble burst and it looked at one stage like we could blaze through the field and have a quick finish to the day but once we got down to 18 things looked up for a bit, monitoring the coverage from the live stream we didn't really get a chance to see the chipleader going into tomorrow Jimmy De Barros play very much but when we changed from the feature table to the secondary he always seemed to be involved in pots and just added & added chips to his stack, 18 players down to 12 we ended up taking a 1 hour dinner break when play recommenced we had two quick eliminations in Kurt Klarin & Steve Toisul meant that we were only 1 player away from completing play for the tonight. Alas it wasn't to be because we had a couple of different spots when the short stacks got it all in with the worst of it but a couple suckouts later play would continue until Bridget Chaney was the eventual final table bubble, KJ no good against AQ of Declan Connelly setting the final table but in the midst of that hand another hand was playing out on the feature table between Raf De Wever & Gaeten Lheureux, flop 6c9h10s De Wever check called a 300,000 bet turn 5h went check/check river card 9d is were all the chips went into the middle, De Wever moving all in for 716,000 sending his opponent into the tank for a pretty big dwell before finally cutting the chips out of his stack and sliding them in, shown 7c8c for the flopped straight Lheurexu flashed a 10 before mucking his hand.

Raf De Wever & Marc MacDonell as far as I know are the first person two people to make two European Deepstack final tables, De Wever finishing 2nd in Slovenia in 2011 & now this one impressive, not forgetting to mention Day 1 chip leader Marc MacDonnell who came back today on a stack of 350,000 second hand into play he got QQ in vs AA and binked the Queen to stay in the tournie and give him a big double up and at one stage taking the lead today, couple of dips on the feature table he always seemed to remain calm and not panic much to his credit,  final tabling this event back in 2008 finishing 7th. Correction to the list of two who have made final tables Dara O Kearney won in 2008 & in 2010 came 9th.

Jimmy De Barros will be the tournament chipleader heading into the final days,

Jimmy De Barros - 6,365,000

Final Table is Set

That's it folks we are done here for the night here our final table is set I will be along shortly we a wrap up and chipcounts.

Bridget Chaney is the unfortunate final table bubble (woman) boy towards the end of play before the dinner break she took a bit hit to her stack when she paid off a Matthieu Duran river bet holding A10 vs AJ for two pair, then ground out a stack for awhile dropping short and then finding spots to double. While before her exit hand she was all in with 78 vs Durans K9 when she housed up but onto her exit hand Declan Connelly opens AsQc & Chaney found KsJc in the SB playing 545,000 and moved all in to be called.

When the board ran out 6s10h9c7h7d she exited stage left to head to the cash desk to collect €3,500 for her effort.

Day 3 Underway Shortly

Good afternoon folks and welcome to the D4 Events European Deepstack 2013, we are 3 spots away from the money so it should be a tense start to todays action for the shortstacks.

Play will be underway in about 30 minutes time.

Day 2 Wrap Up

That's it folks Day 2 down and with the end of play we just stop shy of the money, 45 players getting paid with 48 currently remaining so just have to wait a little while longer before we break it.

296 kicked off Day 2 with a raft of quick eliminations from the get go and throughout the coarse of the day, by the end of the 5th level we had a lost nearly half the field and as the day wore on I was surprised that we got so close to the money, usually things tighten up around the money but the players were just ploughing on. Blog took a hit for a bit as I switched to the live stream to provide some commentary, cheers to the lads that jumped in Rob O Connor/Paul Higgins

At end of play I managed to chat with Marc MacDonnell who was chip leader for a good portion of todays action after coming into Day 2 as chip leader but a bad run of cards he ended up walking into quads twice took it's toll and ended up finishing on 350,000 on the flipside of that Noel O Brien was one of the last people to register last night and didn't end up turning up for play till this afternoon, starting the day with 41,900 chips and swung up to 700,000 and down to a low of 103,000 but has subsequently gone on to finish the day as chipleader and will be leading Day 3 tomorrow with a stack of 1,286,500 but has a couple of million+ stacks nipping at his heels. Please come and join us once again tomorrow where we will bring you all of the Day 3 coverage and play down to our final table of 9, cheers to everybody that tuned into todays coverage.

Bagging & Tagging

Play has now finished for the night and players are bagging & tagging chips, will be along shortly with a Day 2 wrap up.

One of the Last Hands

In one of the last hands before the end of play Noel O Brien has managed to eliminate Tom Paris, Damian Quinlivan opens the action to 22,500 with Paris flatting behind O Brien repops to 125,000 but mentions he didn't mean to make it that big which sent Quinlivan into the tank.

Indecision set in as he wasn't sure what was up, was it a genuine mistake or was it a ploy? Couple quick glances back at this cards before he mucks, Paris next to act quickly moves all in for around 200,00 and gets called for the rest.

O Brien - QcQs

Paris - 10c10s

Flop came down Qh3s8s top set was more than good but Paris picked up the spade draw on the turn As and as the 9d rolled off on the river Quinlivan mentioned that he would of hit his set.

7 More

TD JP McCann has announced 7 more hands and then we are finished for the night.

Dinner Break

Clock reads 5 minutes left in play and then players will head for a 1 hour dinner break, in the meantime I'm going to duck out quickly to beat the rush will be back with you all shortly.

Can't See his Eyes

One time chip leader Jamie Dale opens the action pre flop to 8,000 Wilfried Shulz flats in LP while Michael Kikoyne repops it from the SB to 15,000 with both players calling.

Dealer spreads a Ad8s4d check from Kikoyne after faking going for his chips & likewise check from Dale action to Schulz who doesn't hesitate as he cuts out 22,000 from his stack and slides them into the middle, fold from the original raiser and a quick fold also from Dale and we move onto the next hand while Shulz flashes the As

Wilfried Shulz

Don't Mess with the Goat

Sean "The Goat" Prendiville just off a 3rd place finish at WPT Dublin has been ducking & diving today trying to get going today. Catch the flop of Qd5d6c with 100,000 or so in the middle Tom Kitt gives me a heads up that it went 3bet/4bet Prendiville cbet the flop for 30,000 in the CO position the only player is the gentleman sitting to his immediate left mis the bet to 60,000 not wanting to mess around we got a shove for a little over 100,000 more but it would seem his table mate was at it when he found the quick fold.

Marc MacDonnell has jumped back out in front and has broken the half million chip mark sitting on 520,000

In this video we put a camera in front of Sean Prendiville to see how the pros play.

Half the Field

5 hours into play today and of the 296 players who returned currently we have 153 remaining, attrition in the field has been pretty fierce.

Level 15

Players have retaken their seats as we move into a new blind level, running 1,600/3,200/400 155 players remain average stack of 146,452

Break

Players will now go on a 20 minute break.

New Chippie

Jamie Dale looks to be our new tournament chipleader with a stack of 432,000 talking to his table mate Gary Clarke he said he had one absolute ferocious hand were he picked off a bluff with bottom pair in hefty pot.

Royal Flush x2

We've had another royal flush in play today this time Gary Thompson was the player to hit it against Frederick Van Damme, board read QdJsXx he picked up the draw on the turn As and hit it on the river as it fell Ks

200,000 chip pot for Thompson along with hitting a very elusive hand.

Not to Be

Wasn't to be for Mick McCloskey as he was once again and finally on the badside of a suckout, Damian Quinlivan relayed the hand to me, opening raise which McCloskey repops to 17,000 & flatted, flop 793 and that's when all the chips went into the middle, KK for McCloskey and up against 1010 having lead the flop his opponent moved all in.

As the dealer turned a 10 for the set I can only imagine how McCloskey felt knowing that once again you get them in good but sometimes there is just nothing you can do the cards fall as they fall, brick river and it was to the rails. Managed to chat to him for a brief moment he was dismayed at how it played out the pot was over 200,000 so he would of been well chipped.

Shorty Double

Philippe Zerr on the shortstack managed to get himself a timely as I walk past his table the board reads 7h2c6d9c4c he held JdJh vs AcKd count down of the stack was 89,000 so now pushing 180,000+ gives him a lot more room to manoeuvre.

Hey Bert!

Frederick Van Damme has himself a pretty unique looking style for today mimicking Ernie from Sesame Street.

Big gathering around the table so I pop over to see what is going on, board reading 6sAsJh9s8s Van Damme's opponent has lead 29,000 on the river but an all in for around 100,000 sent the bettor into a dwell before eventually passing, players on the table were wondering what he held and hoping that he would show but no he just sent his cards into the muck.

Level 14

Blinds now running 1,200/2,400/300 196 players remaining, average stack of 115,816

HJ vs CO

In a late position battle between Robbie Renehan HJ and Jimmy De Barros in the CO, Renehan leads 3,500 at the flop 7cAs10d which gets flatted, turn Jd action slowed a little as it went check/check Kd river completing possible straight/flushdraws leads Renehan to check once more but this time he doesn't get a check back as Barros grabs a big pile of nearly all the domination chips and puts them in the middle getting a quick fold from his tablemate.

Kitt Cut

Tom Kitt was eliminated from the tournament a little while back after grinding a stack out he got his 25bigs in with AQ vs 66 of Richard O Neill, had seem them clash earlier in play today with O Neill raising from the CO & Kitt shoving from the BB both players eventually flashing an Ace.

Chipped Up

During the last break the TD's chipped up the big stacks on the table, tournament chipleader Marc MacDonnells stack now doesn't look as dominant but he is still cruising and up around 320,000

Short Stack to Decent Stack

Gary Clarke came back into play today 3rd from bottom on the chipcount having only 17,000 but since start of play he has won most of his pots and is sitting very comfortably on a stack of over 200,000

Final tabling this event in 2008 and finishing 2nd he went onto cash in the event in 2010 finishing in 25th position could he make another run into the money this year?

"Have you got your Notepad"

Mick McCloskey gave me a shout to come over and asked do I have my notepad, nope I didn't have it with me so I had to write down the details on my hand, couple of crazy hands back to back...

First hand the veteran of Irish poker picks up KK gets them all in pre flop against AQ and lost, second hand he picked up AA got them all in on the turn against JJ behind in the hand as his opponent hit a set of Jacks on the flop but the miracle river card was an Ace for top set to re-suckout, third hand picks up QQ gets them all in against AJ and holds once again, stack of around 100,000 currently.

Bad start to yesterday maybe today he is making up for it?

The Nuts

Over on table 33 I get a hand relayed to me where Maria Anderson Murro hit the absolute nuts as she rivered a royal flush, all in pre flop with KcKd vs AA she was in bad shape as the dealer spread a QcJcAc board things were looking up for her bricked the turn as it fell 6d but the 10c on the river gave her the best hand in poker and locked up the win, up to over 90,000

Card Protector

Gentleman behind this card protector Pierre Francois Culand has played a number of D4 Events tournament and his card protector is still one of my favourites I've ever seen.

Shake of the Head

Stan Smith was rocking yesterday when a couple of AK hands had him sitting very comfortable in chips, catch one of his hands today after he button raised to 2,600 & got looked up by both of the blinds. Dealer spread a Qc10d4s flop action checked to Smith on the button who continued with a 5,200 cbet, one caller from the BB. Onto the turn they went as they both checked back a 5d moving onto the final card 2d once again both players checked the action.

Smith turned over QhJs for top pair which was good as the BB mucked his card, as the victor was raking in the chips there was a shake of the head from him knowing that he played the hand a little passively on the river and probably missed one last spot to squeeze and extra few chips out of the pot.

Shortys

John Harris & his table mate were two of the short stacks on his table and he was on the bad side of the all in as his opponent just had him covered for a little over 30,000 Ad10c no good against Kd9d when the board ran out 7s2c8sKcQh gentleman man declaring that K9 is his new lucky hand.

Rich get Richer

Marc MacDonnell started out as the Day 2 chipleader and has been adding to his stack in the first level after a couple of knockouts he is up to over 350,000

Level 12

Blinds now running 800/1,600/200 261 players remain with an average stack of 86,973

Day 2 Chicounts & Table Draw

Play will be underway in about 10 minutes time, chipcounts & table draw can be found HERE

Day 1 Wrap

That's it folks we are done & dusted after 10 levels of play today, 456 players took to the felt and at the end of play we're down to 300 who will return tomorrow at 1pm, players will return to blinds of 600/1,200/150

Colin Johnson had the unfortunate title of being the first player eliminated today, losing the majority of his stack against three Queens he then exited a couple hands later running 88 into KK. Throughout the coarse of the day we had men in wigs/former players making a return/lost a former EDSPC champion in the form of Magnus Nasslin.

Marc MacDonnell who final tabled this event back in 2008 looks to be our suspected tournament chipleader with a stack of 266,000 dropping to a low of 20,000 at one stage it's more than a respectable finishing position, can be once again make it to the final table.

Chipcounts & Table Draws will be posted when received, until tomorrow catch you all on the flipside...

Bagging & Tagging

Play has finished for the night players are just bagging & tagging chips I will be along shortly with a Day 1 wrap.

Last 3 Hands

TD JP McCann has announced 3 more hands and then we will be finished for the night.

Huge Pot

Jamie Dale has just won a massive pot and knocked out Con Collins, arrive to the table at the end of the hand with a pile of chips in the middle on a board of 3s10h5dJd10d with Dale holding 3d3h vs  Collins 10s8s

Sean Prendiville relays the hand to me in the aftermath, raise & call pre flop Collins had cbet the flop and then called a raise from Dale onto the turn Jd Collins checks this time to Dale who leads 17,800 and Collins comes over the top for 90,000 and called by Dale which leaves Collins drawing dead, Dale must of being thinking what the hell happy days!

After putting his stack together he now has 223,000 and must be out there as one of the tournament chipleaders.

Brown Bunched

Rory Brown has just taken a massive hit to his stack and lost a big flip in the process, Alan Trueick opens to 2,500 with 66 Brown 3bets to 5,500 and is met with a an all in for 44,000 & Brown holding AQ made the brave call for the flip and was on the bad side of it when he bricked the board, add insult to injury he nearly got off with a small rebate as the dealer miscounted the stack by 4,000 and is left with 20,000 now.

Thursday 31 January 2013

Break

Players will leave the tournament area and go on a 15 minute break.

99% Chips

Watch a hand develop on a board of 5c10h4h Brian Kiely has bet 17,000 into the pot and is waiting for his opponent to call, suspected that this was an all in but as the dealer turned Ah the two players still hadn't turned their cards, Kiely had 1,200 chips left behind & as his opponent looked back at his cards he set him all in with a snap call as Kiely turned over AcAd for top set with his opponent drawing dead as he held 9s9c with the inconsequential Qh on the river.

McCloskey Magic

Peek my head over the shoulder of Mick McCloskey to see he is now above the 50,000 starting stack, he is delighted by this and mutters "taken me till past 11 o'clock to get back to starting"

TD's

TD's have been dishing out the two hand penalties for players who leave the table before the action has come to them, while railing one table I overhear TD Nick O Hara giving the penalty to two different players on opposite tables.

Always on the ball with his rulings.

Flush Over Flush

Marc MacDonnell tweeted a little while back he was up to 145,000 dropped to 27,000 and looked like he dropped as low as 20,000 according to his Twitter and managed to get back up to 40,000 after 77 housed up for him, since then he has been on the up & up but took a small bump awhile back.

Two way action to the flop MacDonnell ended up losing a good size pot when he got flush over flush with his opponent holding the nutflush, saying he made the pot too big, but just popped over to have a quick look at his stack and he informs me has bounced back and up to 170,000

He was also on the final table of Lloyd O Farrell back in 2008 and finished in 7th place.

Last Level for Entries

We are currently 15 minutes into level 9 which is the last level for entrants, with 45 minutes left to go we're currently looking at 455 players who have so far taken to the felt today.

Blinds now increase to 400/800/100 average stack 62,158 with 365 players currently remaining.

Champion Chopped

Only champion to have won a European Deepstack play today has been eliminated, Magnus Nasslin mentioned to me in an earlier post that it wasn't go his way today, when I caught his bust out hand he was down just under 7,000 and all in in early position. Player on the button was toying with the one time champion asking him what he wanted him to do "call or fold" Nasslin said nothing as his opponent put the chips in the pot.

Nasslin - Ac10d

Opponent - 6d6c

Flopping as well as he could without actually hitting as it came down 9d8sJh two more pulls at the trigger couldn't get him out of the jail as the dealer burned and tunred Kc and dealt a brick river 8h to send Nasslin to the rails.

King Ball River

Stanley Smith binks the miracle river card to keep his hopes alive and give him a very healthy stack, open from a player on the table which is 3bet to 5,000 action to Smith who 4bet to 14,000 original raiser steps out of the way now bring his opponent to 5bet shove & called for 46,700.

Smith - AhKc

Opponent - QhQs

Brick flop as it was spread 3c6c3d Jh turn but the miracle Kd river as he was just about to get up out of his seat, pot had set him over 90,000. Smith has just come up to me in the last couple minutes to tell me he is up to 150,000 now after another AK hand was good to him when he got an A66 flop after some more 3-4-5bet action, man is in a groove.

Readjusting

Chatting on the 15 minute break to Lloyd O Farrell who one time was a very familiar face on the tournament scene in Ireland, back in 2008 he finished 4th in this event but not very much on his Hendon Mob after that taking a long break from the game he has popped up from time to time, only played one tournament last year and binked it so ear marked a few €€€ for this event.

Once an avid and very intuitive poker player he said today he feels a little out of sorts as the game has come on and his once sharp knowledge of the game has been left aside, missing spots he feels he would of normally capitalised on he is certainly not afraid to acknowledge that he thinks it isn't playing all that good today, still early in the game and sitting on around 40,000 gives him plenty of time to get back into the zone.

Just Shoving

Couple hands before the break I was over asking Mick McCloskey for a sound bite his response "reduced to shoving" chatting to him on and off throughout the day things haven't been going very well, as I was walking back past his table 1 minute later there is a raise from the button to 1,200 with a flat call from the SB with McCloskey shoving his 14,000 into the middle and not getting looked up.

Players have retaken their seats as we move into Level 8 blinds 300/600/100 average stack of 58,184 391 from 455 remain.

Former Champion

Magnus Nasslin is the only former champion partaking in the Main Event this weekend, just chatting to him briefly he is on 43,000 and hasn't been playing very well he mentioned.

Trips

Stefano Bellisario took a couple of chips of Irish man Jay O Toole, opening the action in EP to 625 Bellisario is looked up in two spots O Toole in the CO & Sean Prendiville on the button, three players to the flop.

Dealer spreading a AdKs2h flop original raiser leads for 1,200 with O Toole being the only caller, As fell on the turn pairing the board and it slowed down both players as it went check/check river fell 9c 2,500 was the bet from Bellisario and quickly called behind, AcQc he showed to a disgruntled O Toole, but he Irish man is still sitting well after getting set over set.

Bottom Pair Good

In a blind on blind battle Stefan Deutsch opens to 625 with Tom Finneran flatting behind, two to the flop of 2hQsKd Deutsch leads 600 & call, 4d check/check and when the board paired on the river with Kh both players once again checked the action as the original raiser shows 2c9c which is good as Finnerans cards head to the muck.

Overbet the Pot

Missing the pre flop action I see Ross Johnson involved in a hand, board reading KdJcQd 2,200 or so in the middle having checked his action to the other player in the hand his opponent asked how much he had left 13,500 was what he had, betting 7,000 into the pot Johnson was in the middle of tweeting a hand before he decided what to do.

Putting all the chips in the middle he was met with a quick call, Johnson held KhJs for two pair but was in bad shape up against Ah10c for the flopped straight, needing the board to pair with a King/Jack on the turn or river but it wasn't to be as the board ran out 3s7h.

And bust Top and bottom vs a flopped straight. Wasn't a normal pot....

Split Dinner Break

Tables 30-51 will now leave the tournament area & go on a 1 hour dinner break, players from tables 1-29 will continue on with blinds now running 200/400/50

Elimination

Alexis Bauby is one of the most recent eliminations and I get the hand details off his table mate Gerard Harraghy, flop read KQ10 two spades Baudy called a bet when the turn fell X spade he open jammed the flop only for his opponent to call holding three Queens vs his JJ.

Sneaky Backdoor Draw

Table 15 saw Hannu Korva raise to 600 from the CO Max Silver on the button flats as does Franco Munafo from the BB.

Flop s3d8hKd Munafo leads into the pot for 1,000 & Korva raises to 3,000 with Silver side stepping the action, flatted from BB. Kd turn lead the Munafo to now check call 5,000 as we went onto the river card 7d, checking his action once more it was up to Korva to figure out how much he could bet that would get called 8,000 was the figure & met with a quick call, Jd8d turned over by Korva for the backdoor flush draw while his opponent flashed the  Kh

First Man Down

Colin Johnson was our first player eliminated when he ran into 3 Queens on the flop and lost a good chunk of his stack but never showed, the remainder of his chips went in preflop with 88 vs KK of Noel Murphy, with that he has the unfortunate distinction of being the first player eliminated.

10 minutes into 75/150 clock reads 430 players with 1 elimination.

Seated

Posted a picture at the start of play with an empty field, now we are up to 421 players the visual of that has changed.

Good Start

Henry Port who has final tabled 2 events previous at this venue is going for his 3rd in a row, only a couple hands into play after arriving late he is up to 70,000 from 50,000 so it's a good start for the young up & comer.

Fist hand he held 6s9s and was chasing a flush but missed it by the river but was just barreling it against his opponent and with a big 12,000 bet on the river he got the fold, next hand he picked up pocket 2's and managed to pick himself up another 8,000 or so when he flopped a set.
